Salesforce Email Module — Editing Subject Line and Body in Lightning

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]The Salesforce email module offers a number of useful features that make it superior to Outlook and Gmail. One of those features is the ability to edit the subject line and/or body of an email stored in Activity. Many users use this edit function to leave notes or add comments to an email. Others take advantage of the feature to update email status by annotating the Subject Line.

This edit feature is not enabled by default in Lightning. It has to be activated by a Salesforce Admin.

To activate the email editing feature in Lightning perform the following steps:

  1. Click the >> Setup icon which looks like a gear on the upper right hand of any Sales Cloud page.
  2. On the Setup Home page click >> Objects and Fields under Platform Tools in the left column.
  3. Expand Objects and Fields and click >> Object Manager.
  4. n the Object Manager screen scroll down the list until you find Email Message and click on the >> object name.
  5. On the Email Message screen scroll down the left column and click on >> Page Layouts.
  6. On the Page Layouts screen click on the >> name of the Page Layout that you want to add the EDIT button to, usually the page that is currently in use.
  7. On the Email Message Layout screen, select >> Mobile & Lightning Actions in top-left menu, from the selections that appear find the Edit [standard button] and drag it down into Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions section of the page layout; that section will turn blue when it is in position and a green checkmark will appear next to the EDIT button; then release.
  8. Click Save to save the layout.
  9. To confirm that the Email Message page now contains Edit menu item in the top-right corner (where lightning actions for a record are usually displayed) go back to Sales Cloud and click on any email in Activity. By selecting this Action Button, one gets an edit form where Subject and Body can be modified.

For Match My Email users, Match My Email’s email module — which includes some extra features and metadata fields — is built on the Salesforce email module and takes advantage of this native Salesforce functionality. The Match My Email email module can be configured to allow users to modify Subject and Body of uploaded emails in Lightning experience.
