Salesforce Email Integration Plugins are Obsolete

Close-up of a smartphone screen showing app icons. The Mail app, equipped with Salesforce email integration, has a red notification badge with the number 20, indicating unread emails. Other visible icons include Google, Phone, and WhatsApp. The background is slightly blurred.

Client/server software solutions have been eclipsed by cloud apps. Siebel, the leader in client/server CRM, has been crushed by Salesforce.com. Sage ACCPAC (ERP) has been replaced through its acquisition of SAGE Intacct. Supply chain solution vendors have been overtaken by cloud-based startups like E2open.

Market Leaders, Linkpoint360, Cirrus Insight and Inside Sales/iHance, Face Unsurmountable Challenge From Next-Generation Cloud Integration Apps

The same trend is visible for integration software. Salesforce email syncing and logging is a good example. Plug-ins like Salesforce for Outlook, Outlook for Lightning, Salesforce INBOX, Cirrus Insight, Linkpoint360, Inside Sales Absolute Automation, SmartCloud Connect, and Zynbit are being replaced by cloud integration apps. Cloud-based Salesforce email integration apps are easier to deploy and administer – and offer better functionality than email syncing plug-ins to Outlook, MacMail, and Gmail.

Plug-ins require that each and every user download and install a package. This user download and setup can take as little as three minutes and as long as 20 minutes. Cirrus Insight likes to brag that its plug-in only takes 3 minutes to install. Yet even at 3 minutes per user, deploying 100 seats of Cirrus Insight for Office 365 is going to take 300 minutes or five hours. Add to that time, the scheduling and training efforts of IT support. Deploying an email integration plug-in is an expensive and time-consuming undertaking. Plus email syncing plug-ins slow down Outlook and cause periodic crashes.

Cloud-based Salesforce Email Integration Apps are the Future

Cloud-based Salesforce email integration apps eliminate end-user setup. Cloud-based apps automatically upload Salesforce users and then link them to their Office 365 account with a two-click process. Admins handle the entire process from a centralized control panel. Users simply find a working email syncing and logging app working inside Salesforce when they open their Salesforce account after deployment by the admin. Hours and hours of setup time are eliminated. User resistance and frustration are avoided.

Cloud-based email syncing apps provide better security. They eliminate the need to remember and sync passwords. Based on Open Authentication, modern cloud apps can’t be hacked because they don’t rely on usernames and passwords. Passwords are replaced by persistent OAuth ‘security strings’. Users can change Salesforce and Office 365 passwords as often as they like and the cloud-based app stays connected. Users log into the email integration app when they click a tab in SFDC – there is no logging in or remembering usernames and password.

Some industry analysts are calling cloud-based email integration apps as an Integration as a Service (or IaaS). IaaS is the next step in the evolution of cloud computing.

Cloud-based email integration apps can be included in ISP offerings as a two-click add-on to a subscription of Office 365. If you are a Chief Product Officer at an Internet Service Provider like GoDaddy or Rackspace who resells Office365, you should take a look at Match My Email. It offers an extension to your SaaS offerings and is easy to provision.
