4.8. Control Panel > Email Services
In this location, a company’s connection to an email hosting service is established. While most companies make use of one email service connection, more than one can be added. The email service is usually added at the time of setup. Any service listed can be updated by clicking on the name of the service and then, in the next panel clicking Update if needed. While rare, connections do sometimes break as a result of IT management changes or in the case of global connections, a change in permission or user identity.
A company-level email service connection listed here can serve all imports that need to be activated. When connections are listed here, they are available when an Admin wants to activate User imports, listed as the Email Service. When more than one Email Service Connection exists, import activation will not default to one option and will present a drop menu in which a choice can be made between services. This means it is possible to create an email service connection to multiple hosting platforms such as both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace and an IMAP host. For companies that merge and have Users in two different hosting platforms, this can be an ideal solution.
Email Service Connections can be added by clicking the + sign. Connections can be made to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace via API with the involvement and approval of a Global Admin or Super Admin, respectively. In the case of Google Workspace, additional steps are required in Google. These steps will be presented in a distinct screen or can be requested in a document from MME support staff.
An email service connection can also be established via IMAP to an IMAP server or on-site exchange server that allows for IMAP connections and where email accounts are IMAP enabled. IMAP connection requires an IMAP server hostname and port designation, which is most often secure through 993. Many common email hosting services are listed or an Admin may click the button Enter Email Provider Manually. IMAP connections can sometimes be tricky and assistance can be requested from MME support.
