Match My Email is set up in 3 steps

Step 1: Choose how you want to store email messages in Salesforce.

Step 2: Install the Match My Email package into Salesforce

Step 3: Connecting Match My Email to your email service (Outlook, Gmail, etc.)

Step 1: Choose how you want to store email messages in Salesforce.

Match My Email can be set up two ways. You can either match emails to the activity timeline as a Salesforce Enhanced Email object or to a custom timeline as a Match My Email custom object.

When to choose to match emails to the Salesforce activity timeline as Enhanced Emails:

  • If you want emails to be chronologically integrated with all other record activities in the same timeline.
  • If you already have extensive reports built around Tasks and Events in the activity timeline.
  • If you only need to report on email data at either the Account or the Opportunity level, but not both.
  • Emails matched this way can relate to multiple Leads and Contacts (WhoIds) but only relate to one Account, Household, Opportunity, Case, or custom object (WhatIds) for reporting.

When to choose to match emails to the Match My Email custom timeline as a custom object:

  • If you routinely send emails to multiple Contacts representing multiple Accounts.
  • If you use Financial Services Cloud and want matching to both Person Accounts and Households.
  • If you need to report on email data at any object level without restrictions..
  • If you want to make use of more flexible custom matching strategies for multiple WhatId objects..
  • Emails matched to the Match My Email custom timeline appear in a separate section or tab on record pages.
See a more detailed comparison of the two options here.

Step 2: Install the Match My Email package into Salesforce

Based on which email storage option you chose, use the appropriate set up document to connect Match My Email to your Salesforce organization.
